A counter, a display case and thirty-five pieces

Honey Bee Acres The Pastry Shop

The pastry shop is where the village goes for cake, and it comes with enough trays, cups and saucers to serve the whole lane twice over.

One box from the Honey Bee Acres line of flocked animal family playsets.

The shop measures about eleven inches long, under eight deep and just over seven high, with a glass-style display case that turns out to be the part children restock obsessively. The thirty-five pieces run from cups and saucers to a spread of pretend pastries and the trays to carry them on.

An exclusive flocked mouse comes with the set, three inches tall and posable at head, arms and legs, in clothing that swaps with every other character here. The shop also takes figures and furniture of the same scale from other makers, which is useful if the household already owns a different village and refuses to choose.

The pastry shop is the most visited building in any flocked village, which is why it appears in more of the paired boxes on this site than anything else. Its exclusive mouse is the only figure included; the animal families are sold individually and bring the queue. Counter, display case and the whole run of trays and cups are cut for three-inch poseable characters, so the furniture reads correctly next to any Acres household.

Honey Bee Acres is made and distributed by Sunny Days Entertainment. It belongs to a tradition of flocked animal toys that reached collectors from Japan decades ago and has barely changed since: round ears, soft coats and furniture cut to fit. Boxes are sold individually, so the village grows one at a time, and every poseable three-inch character shares the clothing, furniture and accessories of the whole line — one scale this animal toys world has held to for years.
