Soft pink detailing, a velvety flock finish and four rabbits sized for a tabletop — this is the set most families on this lane bought first and the one that made them come back for a second shelf.

One box from the Honey Bee Acres line of flocked animal family playsets.

The parents stand four inches tall, the son three inches and the baby just under two and a half, which is the whole point of the scale: a child can hold the mother in one fist and still line the baby up on a saucer. Heads, arms and legs all move, so the rabbits can be posed mid-hop rather than stood in a dull little row.

Nothing here needs batteries, glue or a grown-up with a screwdriver. The figures come out of the carton ready, they slot into every playset and environment on this site, and their clothing is cut to the same pattern as the rest of the village, so a rabbit can turn up to school in a mouse's dress and nobody minds.

Rabbits are where a great many collectors of flocked animal toys began, and the McScampers hold that place in the Acres. Families in this line are sold individually, so the rabbits can arrive alone and still have somewhere to go — every playset here is scaled to three-inch poseable figures, and the furniture and accessories inside match. Four characters is enough for a household and small enough that a second family, bought a year later, still feels like news rather than a crowd.

Honey Bee Acres is made and distributed by Sunny Days Entertainment. It belongs to a tradition of flocked animal toys that reached collectors from Japan decades ago and has barely changed since: round ears, soft coats and furniture cut to fit. Boxes are sold individually, so the village grows one at a time, and every poseable three-inch character shares the clothing, furniture and accessories of the whole line — one scale this animal toys world has held to for years.
